GLOBAL STUDIES – A EUROPEAN PERSPECTIVE





Topic: “Global Studies – A European Perspective” is an interdisciplinary, research-based Master’s course offered by a Consortium of five European universities, that are namely: University of Leipzig (Germany), London School of Economics and Political Science (UK), University of Roskilde (Denmark), University of Vienna (Austria) and University of Wroclaw (Poland) and seven Non-European universities: Addis Ababa University (Ethiopia), Dalhousie University (Canada), Fudan University (China), Jawaharlal Nehru University (India), Macquarie University (Australia), University of California at Santa Barbara (USA), University of Stellenbosch (South Africa).

The Master’s course combines approaches from Global History and International Studies. Cultural Studies, Area Studies, Social Sciences and other disciplines contribute to a wide ranging academic programme.

Mobility track: The course is modularised and integrated: It can be studied for one year at one of the European partner institutions, and for the second year at a different European university. Additionally there is the opportunity to spend one semester at one of our Non-European partner universities.

Application requirements: The Master’s Course ‘Global Studies’ aims at excellent students with a first degree in social sciences and humanities with an interest in issues of globalisation. The minimum application requirements are a BA degree or a recognised equivalent from an accredited institution, sufficient undergraduate training to do graduate work in the chosen field, excellent written and oral command of English.

Grants: The European Master ‘Global Studies – A European Perspective” is part of the EU’s co-operation and mobility programme in the field of higher education ERASMUS MUNDUS. Therefore the EU offers each year scholarships for highly qualified applicants of this Master’s course. These grants include besides the coverage for the complete tuition fees also a monthly living allowance.

Application deadline: The application deadline is December 1st of each year for applicants who want to qualify for the Erasmus Mundus scholarship and for the next cycle of the course, which starts in fall of the following year. Meeting the application deadline will be established by the date of arrival of the paper application.

Master: EPP/CoR Study Visit for Masters Students, Brussels, 28-30 November 2012‏

The European People's Party Group in the Committee of the Regions is holding the fifth edition of its very successful study visit for students enrolled in Masters degrees in the field of European Studies, Political Science and International Relations. The 3-day visit will take place in Brussels from 28-30 November 2012, alongside the CoR Plenary Session, and will include debates with representatives from the EU Committee of the Regions, European Parliament and European Commission. We would be very grateful if our initiative could be welcomed.



We are convinced that students have to be actively involved in the debate on Europe – especially in the run-up to the European elections in 2014 when many of these students will be eligible to vote for the first time.



The working language for the visit will be English all costs for travel and accommodation will be met by the Committee of the Regions.

With the European Online Academy, the Centre international de formation européenne (President: Jean-Claude Juncker) in cooperation with the Jean Monnet Chair of the University of Cologne organises the Certificate (one-year) and Master in EU Studies Online (two-year). This programme is supported by the European Union.

Through a combination of e-learning and concentrated face-to-face-learning phases (at weekends mainly in Berlin, Barcelona, Brussels and Budapest) the European Online Academy allows the participants to deepen and to supplement their knowledge of the EU integration process. The programmes are an outstanding opportunity for young professionals to continue their studies while pursuing their career at the same time.

Both programmes offer an accurate blend of theoretical and practical knowledge. In the first year participants gain an enhanced knowledge of recent developments in the European integration process. After having successfully completed the first year, the participants obtain the Certificate in EU Studies Online (30 ECTS). In order to specialise in one of the core subjects (Political Science, Economics and EU Law), the participants may join the second year of the Master programme – whereby the general approach to the issues and tasks is an interdisciplinary one. After having submitted and defended a Master thesis they are awarded the Master in EU Studies Online (60 ECTS).

This two year MA programme is conducted as a joint degree between four partner universities (Graz, Belgrade, Skopje and Zagreb) and commences in Belgrade in October 2012. Students enroll in and spend the first year at the University of Belgrade – Faculty of Political Sciences. Content of the Programme
The Interdisciplinary Joint Master in South-Eastern European Studies is an international and interdisciplinary programme in social sciences and humanities of the highest quality which enables participants to effectively understand the interrelationship between law, politics, economics and culture with an emphasis on South-Eastern Europe. The programme prepares students for doctoral studies and professional life in a variety of other fields including work in international, local governmental and non-governmental organisations, journalism, business, scientific research, and consultancy.
In the first year, students take core courses which include an introduction to multidisciplinary approaches in the study of South-East Europe, public law, political science, history, economics and cultural studies. In the summer after the first year a joint summer school is held for all students from the participating universities to complete the compulsory core modules. In the second year, students attend one of the partner universities and specialize in their desired field. There are also optional provisions in place to offer students professional training and internship positions. In the final semester students write a master thesis reflecting their ability to work on a scientific subject independently.
All compulsory subjects are conducted in English though students are able to take classes in other languages. Language acquisition is an important aspect of the joint degree and students are expected to learn a regional language and/or the predominant language of their mobility institution.

Teaching staff
We pride ourselves for being able to gather an international team of teachers from leading universities and research institutes in Serbia, Austria, Great Britain and the US. You will be able to further expand your studies by spending the third - mobility – semester at one of nine partner universities in eight European countries, where you will specialize in one of many fields. Universum University College is offering eight (8) scholarships and assistantships for international students in our MA in Management (Finance and Management specialisations) commencing in November 2012. In addition, students can join the program for a semester or two as part of their study abroad / exchange program.

Universum University College is an accredited higher education provider in Kosovo, with the accreditation conducted by International experts. It is renowned for its international outlook and entrepreneurial profile and is the only higher education institution in the Balkans approved by Edexcel to offer internationally recognized academic and vocational qualifications. In order to create a diverse student body, Universum is offering the following assistantships/scholarships to international students:

2 Assistantships
The assistantship covers the full tuition fees for the program (7,200 euro) and provides a monthly salary of 200 euro to the candidates for 15 months. Assistants are required to work 20 hours a week as an undergraduate teaching or research assistant, tutor, academic adviser or do administrative work in one of the offices or departments (i.e. International Education and Study Abroad Office).

6 Scholarships
In addition to the Assistantships, Universum offers six scholarships. The scholarship covers 25-100% of tuition fees for two years, based on need and merit. Scholarship holders are obliged to volunteer in college or community projects for up to 200 hours during two years.

ISTANBUL BILGI UNIVERSITY MA PROGRAM IN HISTORY

Students will be admitted for the 2012/2013 academic year. The Master's
Program aims to provide students of diverse backgrounds a firm academic
foundation geared towards conducting original research in the field of
history with an emphasis on interdisciplinary methods and approaches.
Application to the program is not limited to students with undergraduate
degrees in history but is also open to those from related fields in the
social sciences and humanities. International students are likewise
encouraged to apply. Teaching and coursework are conducted in English. For
those students who has a high degree of proficiency in a language other
than Turkish but have only an intermediate command of English, deferment
of admission for a year will be permissible contingent upon taking steps
to acquire the necessary level of English during that year.

The two-year master's program focuses on the cultural, intellectual,
social and economic history of Turkey covering the medieval to
contemporary periods. The History Department at Istanbul Bilgi University
offers a unique program both in terms of diverse and challenging
coursework as well as research opportunities in the above fields. With an
emphasis on interaction with the teaching staff, the program encourages
students to work in close collaboration with their advisors in both the

International MA in Comparative Politics: Central and Eastern European Politics and Societies

This International Master Program is jointly organised by the Université Libre de Bruxelles, the University of Bucharest; the University of Wroclaw and the Babes Boyai University (Cluj)

BRIEF PRESENTATION

The two-year master program in comparative politics taught in English at the Political Science Faculty of the University of Bucharest is among the very few of its kind in Central, Eastern, and and South-East Europe. Our curriculum stresses both the theoretical and empirical dimensions related to the modern and contemporary evolution of politics and society in the region. The program is methodologically eclectic yet rigorous, with an emphasis on historical and political science approaches.
The master program is meant for students with a BA degree (180 ECTS) in political science, history, sociology, law, economics, philosophy, and philology, coming from Romania, Central and South-East Europe, EU and Non-EU coutries.
The courses focus on the historical roots of political processes, explore how can democratic institutions and practices be generated, challenged and sustained, recognize and cope with the particular features of the area, studying them in a wide comparative perspective.
The program looks for sophisticated analytical answers to such basic political questions as: 'why are some countries democratic while others are not?' 'why are some countries torn by ethnic conflict?' 'do constitutions matter?' 'what is the impact of global capitalism on state sovereignty?'
Addressing these and similar questions, the program offers courses in the fields of democratisation, nationalism and ethnicity, political elites and institutions, and constitutionalism. These processes are analyzed as embedded in their area- and country-specific particularities and contexts.

The program is part of a Consortium that includes the University of Bucharest, Universite Libre Brussels, University of Wroclaw, and the Babes Bolyai University of Cluj. ADVANTAGES

MCP students can be awarded two Master diplomas, one from the home (Bucharest), and one from the host University (Universite Libre Brussels, University of Wroclaw). In this sense they will attend the first year in the department of political science of University of Bucharest and continue the second year in another one of their choice (Universite Libre Brussels, University of Wroclaw). Studying abroad will be the most rewarding and eye-opening experience of university life. Besides the one year mobility, the Master program offers the opportunity to take part in a series of study trips in Poland and Belgium. The MA in Comparative Politics will provide students with an intellectually stimulating analysis of the key issues in regional and European politics, such as the changing dynamics of state power, the dimensions of regime change, and the challenge posed to states by ethno-nationalism and political radicalisms.
Students, many of them international and exchange, will take part in small graduate seminars and thus benefit from the direct guidance of the professorial body. The faculty/student ratio (currently approximately 1:3) meets the most demanding standards of higher education.
Courses will be taught by academics with solid credentials in their respective fields of expertise; all faculty members have had extensive exposure to the international academic world.

This two year MA programme is conducted as a joint degree between four partner universities (Graz, Belgrade, Skopje and Zagreb) and the second generation commences in Graz in October 2012.

Students enrol in and spend the first year at Karl-Franzens University of Graz. In the second year, students spend at least one semester on mobility at a partner university. Why Southeast European Studies in Graz?

South-Eastern Europe has been a focus of the University of Graz for over a century. The noble prize winner Ivo Andrić wrote his PhD in Graz and many scholars and prominent intellectuals from the region have studied here. Since the early 1990s thousands of students from across the Balkans have decided to study at the University of Graz and it is today normal to hear Bosnian/Serbian/Croatian, and Albanian in addition to German and English in the hallways of the university. Only two hours from Ljubljana and Zagreb by car, the city is close to South-Eastern Europe and the dense ties to the region are tangible throughout the city, from the cultural life to the social scene.

Over the past decades, the University has had a strong academic interest in the history of South-Eastern Europe, in particular historical anthropology. Various exchange programs, teaching, research and public events on the region have a long tradition. The Centre for Southeast European Studies is not only coordinating the Master’s Programme, but also hosts regular public events, workshops, conferences and conducts research on South-Eastern Europe. There are two other degree programs focused on South-Eastern Europe, an MA programme in the History of South-Eastern Europe and an LLM in South-East European Law and European Integration. Students are thus not just offered an MA programme in South-Eastern Europe, but are part of a vibrant community of scholars and students interested in and from South-Eastern Europe.


Content of the Programme

The Interdisciplinary Joint Master in South-Eastern European Studies is an international and interdisciplinary programme in social sciences and humanities of the highest quality which enables participants to effectively understand the interrelationship between law, politics, economics and culture with an emphasis on South-Eastern Europe. The programme prepares students for doctoral studies and professional life in a variety of
other fields including work in international, local governmental and non-governmental organisations, journalism, business, scientific research, and consultancy.

In the first year at the University of Graz, students take core courses which include an introduction to multidisciplinary approaches in the study of South-East Europe, public law, political science, history, economics and cultural studies. In the summer after the first year a joint summer school is held for all students from the participating universities to complete the compulsory core modules. In the second year, students attend one of the partner universities and specialise in their desired field. There are also optional provisions in place to offer students professional trainings and internship positions.

In the final semester students write a master thesis reflecting their capacity to work on a scientific subject independently.

All compulsory subjects are conducted in English though students are able to take classes in other languages. Language acquisition is an important key aspect of the joint degree and students are expected to learn a regional language and/or the predominant language of their mobility institution.

Students completing the Interdisciplinary Joint Master’s Programme in South-Eastern European Studies earn the degree “Master of Arts”, abbreviated MA. The joint degree is awarded by all four partners (pending accreditation at some partners).


Admission

The Interdisciplinary Joint Master’s Programme in South-Eastern European Studies welcomes applicants who hold an academic degree of at least 180 ECTS credits (bachelor’s degree or equivalent) who can demonstrate their basic knowledge of social sciences or humanities -- law, political, social, cultural or economic sciences -- and who have some general insight and interest in South-Eastern Europe.


Tuition fees are €380.86 per semester with the possibility of tuition waiver for Austrian/EU and certain other states a refund for SEE citizens upon successful completion of the academic year. Setting Description:
The MBA program follows the conventional university structure of a two-year course divided into four different semesters.

Students are offered an array of optional courses to accompany mandatory courses, professional training semester and the final thesis. The first semester will be undertaken in Berlin, and the second in Romania. In the second year the students will begin the first semester in Berlin and will undertake a practical development and training semester at the Institute for Cultural Diplomacy and then produce a final thesis on a related topic of choice.
These modules have been designed to provide a balance between historical, current and future perspectives of the Global Economy and Cultural Diplomacy. Topics range from Cultural Diplomacy at the corporate, strategic and management level. And focus on International Business and Communications, Globalization, and Crisis Management, as well as Economic Governance, International Organizations, and Contemporary Politics. Many of these courses will focus on the practical applications of Cultural Diplomacy and political economic thought and theory, as well as current transnational and international economic business activities.

This unique combination of study and work at two different institutions provides the crucial support and experience that an MBA student in Cultural Diplomacy and the Global Economy needs in order to flourish in today’s globalized world.

BRIEF PRESENTATION
The two-year master program in comparative politics taught in English at the Political Science Faculty of the University of Bucharest is among the very few of its kind in Central, Eastern, and and South-East Europe. Our curriculum stresses both the theoretical and empirical dimensions related to the modern and contemporary evolution of politics and society in the region. The program is methodologically eclectic yet rigorous, with an emphasis on historical and political science approaches.
The master program is meant for students with a BA degree (180 ECTS) in political science, history, sociology, law, economics, philosophy, and philology, coming from Romania, Central and South-East Europe, EU and Non-EU coutries.
The courses focus on the historical roots of political processes, explore how can democratic institutions and practices be generated, challenged and sustained, recognize and cope with the particular features of the area, studying them in a wide comparative perspective.
The program looks for sophisticated analytical answers to such basic political questions as: 'why are some countries democratic while others are not?' 'why are some countries torn by ethnic conflict?' 'do constitutions matter?' 'what is the impact of global capitalism on state sovereignty?'
Addressing these and similar questions, the program offers courses in the fields of democratisation, nationalism and ethnicity, political elites and institutions, and constitutionalism. These processes are analyzed as embedded in their area- and country-specific particularities and contexts.

Overview: The MBA in Cultural Diplomacy and the Global Economy is a two-year program consisting of two semesters in Berlin and two at the Babeş-Bolyai University.

Harnessing the potential of cultural diplomacy as a sustainable, responsible business strategy, the MBA in Cultural Diplomacy and the Global Economy equips students with a comprehensive training in macroeconomic principles, business management strategy and marketing with an emphasis on a unique brand of diplomacy that furthers the social and cultural power of the private sector. This unique approach to international business ensures that the leaders of tomorrow are adequately prepared for the challenges of an ever-changing and increasingly interdependent world.




The Key Objectives of the program are:
•To provide students with an in-depth understanding of the theory and practice of global economics and Cultural Diplomacy, as well as the basics and foundations of how the fields work together.

•To explore the historic and recent developments in international economics and cultural diplomacy and to prepare students for future developments in the evolving global economy.

•To analyze the developments in the field of cultural diplomacy and to create and apply strategies of how cultural diplomacy can further influence, support, and strengthen the activity of the private sector.

•To enable students to develop successful projects applying the practice of cultural diplomacy and international economics.

•To analyze the strategic and ethical foundations of corporate social responsibility programs and corporate philanthropy with regards to Cultural Diplomacy.




Setting Description: The MA in International Relations and Cultural Diplomacy is a two-year program consisting of two semesters at the Babes-Bolyai University and two at BBU Berlin Campus at the ICD in Berlin.




The MBA program follows the conventional university structure of a two-year course divided into four different semesters. Students are offered an array of optional courses to accompany mandatory courses, professional training semester and the final thesis. The first semester will be undertaken in Berlin, and the second in Romania. In the second year the students will begin the first semester in Berlin and will undertake a practical development and training semester at the Institute for Cultural Diplomacy and then produce a final thesis on a related topic of choice.

These modules have been designed to provide a balance between historical, current and future perspectives of the Global Economy and Cultural Diplomacy. Topics range from Cultural Diplomacy at the corporate, strategic and management level. And focus on International Business and Communications, Globalization, and Crisis Management, as well as Economic Governance, International Organizations, and Contemporary Politics. Many of these courses will focus on the practical applications of Cultural Diplomacy and political economic thought and theory, as well as current transnational and international economic business activities.




This unique combination of study and work at two different institutions provides the crucial support and experience that an MBA student in Cultural Diplomacy and the Global Economy needs in order to flourish in today’s globalized world.

The structure and geographical division of the courses provides students with access to different cultures that will enhance cultural awareness and understanding of different political and economic norms, as well as providing a useful platform on which to broaden the areas of study offered within the program.

MA in International Relations and Cultural Diplomacy: The Euro-Mediterranean University (EMUNI) in Cooperation with the Institute for Cultural Diplomacy

The degree is offered and awarded by the Euro-Mediterranean University (EMUNI University) in cooperation with the Institute for Cultural Diplomacy (ICD).

Overview: Offered by the EMUNI in partnership with the ICD, the program will combine the traditional academic components of International Relations with a concentration on Euro-Mediterranean Studies and a focus on the role of soft power and cultural diplomacy in contemporary global affairs.

The Key Objectives of the program are:
• To provide students with an in depth understanding of the theory and practice of international relations within the contemporary interdependent world placing a particular emphasis on cultural diplomacy within this framework
• To educate students about cultural diplomacy within the context of the political, economic and cultural pillars upon which sustainable international relations are based.
• To analyze soft power and hard power strategies within the international relations discourse in the recognition that each element is mutually important and compatible in what Prof. Joseph Nye has characterized as “smart power.”
• Since the Euro-Mediterranean is one of the most vibrant when it comes to both the need for cultural diplomacy and the application of cultural diplomacy, by focusing on this region, students will gain a valuable education that is transferable to any international context their future careers might take them. A comprehensive understanding of the theory, history and practice of Euro-Mediterranean Studies within the international relations field will lead to proper understanding and application of cultural diplomacy in both the Euro-Mediterranean context as well as in the global arena.

The MA in International Relations and Cultural Diplomacy is a 4-semester program (12-15 months) consisting of two semesters in Berlin, one at The Euro-Mediterranean University (EMUNI) in Portorož – Piran, Slovenia and a thesis to be completed either in Berlin or Slovenia, or at a location of the student’s choice.

•Students of this program will be significantly advantaged in the political arena against students who simply obtain an MA in international relations.
•The Program offers students a special focus on Euro-Mediterranean issues, which will prepare the student for a vast array of career opportunities in this region and across the world.
•During the “Professional Training” semester of the MA students will be able to create and implement their own programs of cultural diplomacy.
•Graduates will discover that the curriculum and faculty prepare them for evolving careers in academia and all public and private international sectors.
•Career Service - The ICD and EMUNI see it as an integral part of the MA to support and assist our students in acquiring the careers that they seek. Therefore during semester 3 of the program, together with the support of our faculty advisors and our career services department, we will create a strategy with the student of how to proceed immediately from the MA to the career of their choice, should that be the desire of the student.
•The program will allow students to study with distinguished and renowned faculty and meet with guest speakers from Slovenia, Germany, Europe, and across the world, and will enable contact with and access to experts and organizations associated with international relations and the Euro- Mediterranean region, as well as current and former politicians and other stakeholders.

Master: MBA in International Business - Full Time Edition XXIII edition (September 2012 – September 2013) Scholarship Competition

MIB School of Management of Trieste, Italy is pleased to announce a scholarship competition for applicants to the XXIII Edition of the MBA in International Business.
The Scholarships will go toward tuition fees to attend the XXIII edition of the MBA in International Business programme (September 2012 - September 2013).
The Scholarships will cover up to 50% of the tuition fees. The full tuition fees are equivalent to 25.000,00 EUR (21% VAT included). The amount of the scholarships will be discounted from the overall tuition fees. In case of course abandonment or exclusion for any reason, no amount of the scholarship will be paid or reimbursed.
Candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Academic degree (or equivalent qualification) in any discipline.
- Good working knowledge of English (TOEFL/IELTS/PTE certificate is recommended).
- Minimum 3 years of work experience.
MIB School of Management will award scholarships to the best candidates on the basis of educational qualifications, professional skills and motivation shown during the entrance interview.
To be considered for a scholarship, the application form for the programme must be completed on-line at www.mib.edu.
In order to finalize the application, the following documents must be received:
- Degree certificate and transcript
- Two letters of recommendation
- A certificate demonstrating adequate knowledge of English such as TOEFL/IELTS/PTE (alternatively, verification of skills may be made directly by the School)
